PRESENTS:
THE MOUNTAIN GOATS
AND SPECIAL GUESTS THE BAPTIST GENERALS
Tuesday, June 11th — CARNEGIE LIBRARY MUSIC HALL OF HOMESTEAD
Drusky Entertainment Presents The Mountain Goats and special guests The Baptist Generals for an ALL AGES show at the Carnegie Library Music Hall of Homestead (510 E.10th Ave, Munhall, PA 15120) on Tuesday, June 11th, 2013, 6:30PM Doors, 7:30PM Show. ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN GOATS:
The Mountain Goats began life in a Norwalk employee-housing studio apartment that had awesome deco tiling on the bathroom floor but little more to recommend the place as a living space. Still, you take what you can get, and it was ridiculously cheap. In this room, equipped with a dual-cassette recorder, John D. started setting some of his poetry to music, using a guitar he’d gotten for a few bucks at a nearby strip mall music store. His idea at the time was that eventually his day job would be “poet.” Young men have all kinds of crazy ideas about what they’re going to end up doing for a living.

Six of the world’s most influential five-string banjo players – all with ties to New York State – have united to perform concerts that find the banjo being played in both conventional and unexpected ways. In performances ranging from solos and duets to full-tilt banjo blowouts with all the players and an acoustic band, the stage setting will range from the traditional backdrop of bluegrass and old-time country music to the more progressive banjo genres including jazz, classical and rock music. The six artists playing banjo include Bela Fleck, Bill Keith, Eric Weissberg, Noam Pikelny, Richie Stearns and Tony Trischka. Other members of the band include Corey DiMario on bass, Jesse Cobb on the mandolin, and Russ Barenberg on guitar.
Just in case you aren’t familiar with Béla Fleck, there are some who say he’s the premiere banjo player in the world.. Others claim that Béla has virtually reinvented the image and the sound of the banjo through a remarkable performing and recording career that has taken him all over the musical map and on a range of solo projects and collaborations. If you are familiar with Béla, you know that he just loves to play the banjo, and put it into unique settings.

ABOUT IRON AND WINE:
Over the course of his ten-year career, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam has become one of today’s greatest story tellers, crafting meticulous tales full of forlorn love, religious imagery and wistful dreams. It’s been more than three years since his last studio effort, The Shepherd’s Dog, which was widely praised by fans and critics alike. While Beam’s early albums were sparse, intimate solo affairs, Shepherd’s introduced layered textures and poly-rhythmic sounds that allowed his lyrics to spring to life. It’s only natural then, that Beam took this sonic collage and built upon it for his new album, Kiss Each Other Clean. The result is a brighter, more focused record that retains the idiosyncratic elements that make Iron & Wine such an engaging band.
